ISO50

ISO50 originally started as Scott Hansen's answer to an online portfolio. It has since grown to encompass a shop, a clothing line and a blog.

I came across Scott's ISO50 site through a regular visit to Grain Edit, and really, Scott's work is the pinnacle of everything that Grain Edit aspires to; "classic design work from the 1950s-1970s and contemporary designers that draw inspiration from that time period."

Don't you think that the colours and style of Scott's work evoke a perfect sense of sunshine and freedom? -I love it!!

"Design, to me, is the search for efficiency. Efficiency in conveying a message, efficiency of form. In this way I see some of my own work falling into the category of design, while some of my other work falls under the umbrella of illustration.

With the more illustrative pieces my primary goal is to create something beautiful or striking in a visceral sense. These goals remain intact when I create a purely design-driven piece, but there is the added goal of minimalism and efficiency which constrains the process and limits the content. It is these constraints that force us as designers to reveal the core of the idea we are trying to express and to seek the most direct route to it.

In this way, all of the periphery and excess of illustration and fine art can be shed to expose the roots of visual communication and express them in a concise and instantly understandable form. When I see something that embodies these ideals it is always very moving, these are the things that drive me to create."

Isabelle Abramson

Hi!

Well the holidays are certainly 'sleep-over' season! This morning I have four wee lads, blurry eyed and keen to start the day : ) I had a plan that I was going to get up earlier this morning to write this 'I' post, but I had an irresistible early morning visit from my youngest son, who snuggled right in until it was his 'get-up' time. If you ask me, that is the perfect way to start the day!


Isabelle Abramson

The same youngest son has been discussing with me the possibility of including a 'nature table' in our home. His requirements are; a chair, some books, and a collection of 'nature' in jars - "not for touching, just for looking". I showed him a collection that I had been gathering from our walks and beach visits. It has stones, seed pods, shells, skeleton leaves, sea glass, even a piece of sea sponge - little treasures that have made their way home in pockets and buckets : )

When I saw this porcelain work by Isabelle Abramson, it reminded me of our little collection of 'nature' - delicate, textural and beautiful. Each of Isabelle's pieces are moulded by hand. The little holes and spaces are skillfully cut and drilled to create an intricate pattern, letting light play and shadows dance.

Hillery Rebecca Sproatt + I'm Wednesday's Child + Happy Lady Eats

Hi!

Do you mind if we double up today? I am wanting to pop H and I together, mainly because my schedule has been so busy this week I feel like I am lagging behind...it is a pretty chocka day tomorrow too... I wanted to get both done at once so I didn't have to worry too much.

So, today we feature 2 super talented creatives, plus one fabulous find from the 'wonderland'.. shall we get started?

Hillery Rebecca Sproatt

As part of my printmaking course, I am doing a wee study on my Grandmother. She passed away about 17 years ago and was an amazing and strong woman.

Of all things, I still have a very vivid memory of her china cabinet. I was so intrigued by all the treasure that was in there. Memento's from travel, little bits of porcelain and a variety of different ornaments. I never ventured in to it, but I do remember spending long moments gazing through the glass. I don't know why I never dared to open the doors, maybe the pleasure I got from the wonderment of it all was enough to satisfy me.

When I saw these images in Hillery Rebecca Sproatt's portfolio I fell in love! I had originally planned to feature some of Hillery's illustrations, but I couldn't go past this first image below. I would be intrigued for hours in front of these display cases - so many stories, so much history - so much treasure!

I'm Wednesday's Child

I had a oohhhh! moment when I saw the illustrations of Wa-tinee Paleebatt. Wa-tinee is one talented gal!

Wa-tinee's store 'I'm Wednesday's Child', is full of gorgeous pieces of work. Each piece is a print of an original painting that is then digitally coloured. So beautiful!

Ingrid Padilla + Ilee Paper Goods + Ish and Chi

Hi dee hi!

How was the first half of your week? Good I hope : )

Ours has been surprisingly pleasant considering that it has been raining all week and the boys and I have been stuck indoors. We did venture out yesterday in the rain, and today is already looking much brighter...

We also tried some meditation - our youngest son does meditation at preschool (very cool!) and was keen to show us how it is done. With both boys comfortably positioned, they spent a bit of time, relaxing, and breathing, and feeling the weight of their bodies - it was lovely! I'm looking forward to doing it more often, there is nothing like peace and calm in a home of boisterousness and testosterone!

Ingrid Padilla

I think I must be in an 'ink drawing' phase because I have found more to share with you today.

This series of work is from mixed media artist Ingrid Padilla and is from her colorful series of original paint and ink drawings. I think they would be amazing in a large format.

Inspiration Daily

This is probably something that is already firmly fixed into your regular reading, but just in case it isn't, I wanted to share one of my favourite daily stops - Inspiration Daily at Creature Comforts.

Ez from Creature Comforts is well known for her impeccable taste and ability to find the most gorgeous goodies to share on her site, and her Inspiration Daily segment is one that I really look forward to.

Ez chooses one image a day to share, and as with everything at Creature Comforts, each image is beautiful. I find this the perfect place to ponder before beginning my day and I trip over there when I need a bit of time out or when I need to reflect and charge my batteries - And then there's the links! Oh my! You could get lost in there!

I couldn't skip through 'i' without mentioning Inside Out. Inside Out is one of my favourite Australian home and design magazines that always manages to put together a collection of the most gorgeous homes and interior pieces.

It was pretty exciting stuff when the Inside Out blog was launched in March this year, and sticking true to all that is fabulous about the magazine, the Inside Out blog delivers more delicious design and interiors, a bit of background into the magazine's feature articles, and "where the staff happily reveal a few of their favourite things". Ohhh! and the sneak peek into their new magazine layout is divine! I can't wait for the next issue!
