I always enjoy reading through an artist's bio and Danny Mansmith's was no exception - I could copy and paste it all here, but I'm not going to - I want you to go and check it out for yourself... here's a snippet;

"I was the sensitive redhead growing up: the one that was picked on. So, from the very beginning, I was sort of pushed upon a path of feeling different and apart from others..."

I can definitely identify with Danny, not that I was picked on, but that feeling of being different - thinking differently, liking different things, having different interests...blogging has opened me up to a whole heap of like-minded people, it makes me realise I am not actually that different, there are plenty of people out there who are just like me!

Unfortunately for me, the outcome of my 'differences' are nothing like Danny's - this 'sensitive red-head' is super talented and produces an awe inspiring collection of work - you need to have a look through his portfolio...

"It took almost all of the ‘90’s to develop a way of sewing that looks naive and disheveled, but still well made.There’s this really hard work ethic I have. But working and making art is my joy and freedom. It’s my survival."

Hello!

Thank you so much for your patience while we were getting some things sorted here. The small crisis has been diverted.. yay!

The great thing about a wee crisis is how it makes me analyse a few things; take accountability for my life and my life's journey, as well as that of my family. Crisis' are also fantastic at bringing people together, and my lovely husband and I have been spurred on to make some changes and set a course for some new adventures.... every cloud really does have a silver lining : )

So all is good.

I find Allison's work so serene and peaceful - it is the perfect spot to ponder when a crisis is in full swing! Even when not in peril, Allison's work provides a calming and soothing window to contemplate the beauty of the world...

"Allison Trentelman is a fine art photographer who's work focuses on the animals and natural landscape on the coast of Maine. Nice Work

Hi there!

How is your week going? Great I hope! The weather has been beautiful here and the beach has been outstanding - warm and glassy flat. There's been a whole heap of seaside frolicking happening in our family, and a whole heap of late nights as we try and make the most of every daylight moment. I'm loving it!

Nice Work

I have been wanting to include this stationery collection from Sarah Maxey of Nice Work for a while now and was reminded of it again the other day as I was perusing the Endemic World website.

"Sarah is most known for her award-winning work on literary book covers, often using her own illustration and hand-lettering. Of late, she has been focusing on personal hand-lettering projects, exhibiting her work in galleries in Wellington and Auckland. She is also busy building up her own imprint publishing fine stationery and small limited edition books."

I couldn't resist these softies from Ninon - so adorable and so full of personality! Tania Patritti has been making things with fabric for seven years... her little monster sketches eventually partnered up with her sewing and in 2004 her project of "les monstrìs" was born.

one small voice...

I was so excited to read on the Small Acorns blog this week that one small voice can bring about big change...

Last week, Amanda from Small Acorns, wrote about a large format store here in NZ carrying a copy of an Orla Keily duvet set...low and behold... the post got twittered and the tweet was noticed by one of Amanda's followers, who just happened to be both a journalist and an Orla Kiely fan...and guess what?? To cut a long story short, the said Duvet Sets have been pulled from the shelves - nationwide!!!

I think this wee story is so amazing. It is a fabulous example of the power of the internet, and the power of one person's voice - yay for small voices! and boo for designers who blatantly rip off other people's work! - well done Amanda!
