+ Cecilia Carlstedt

Happy Wednesday to you!

What do you have planned for today? I have lots of work to do on a project I have on at the moment, I'm at one of those 'stuck' points - do you know the ones? I really do need to take it to the next step, so I've lit the fire, I'm about to go for a walk, and then I plan to go head-long into it.

I've chosen some beautiful work to share today. Let's take a peek:

Cecilia Carlstedt

Since the end of alphabet*ten I've been a bit out of the blog loop. I haven't been delving into my daily dose of blog reading and inspiration-finding, so there has been major catchup happening this last week or so. One of my favourite places to linger is at Elsa-May.

I've told you about Elsa-May before - do you remember? My recent visit was the first in a what seems like a long while, and as always, Annie has collated a gorgeous collection of art, fashion, photography and poetry...and, introduced me to Cecilia Carlstedt, an amazing fashion illustrator.

There isn't much online about Cecilia, but there is this interview with ACAD design student Vishu Mahajan, which you should pop over and read...

In the meantime, ponder over these pieces from Cecilia's portfolio - beautiful!

+ Caroline Slotte

Happy Wednesday!

Hows your day going? Good I hope : )

I'm going to jump right in today - ready?

Caroline Slotte

I've been on an online journey this morning - you know how it can be, right? You start off somewhere, maybe a regular stop, and you end up, through a series of clicks and links, somewhere you would never had found on your own. That is exactly how I came upon the work of Caroline Slotte. Luckily we happen to be up to C today, which means there's no waiting to share the work of this clever gal with you...

The work of Helsinki born Caroline is breathtaking. It ticks all my boxes - vintage ceramics? check. Intricate cutting? check. Completely in awe? check.

Working mainly with found vintage ceramics, Caroline carefully cuts into the patterns, removing and re-gluing pieces to create gorgeous layered scenes or images.

"I’m interested in how the interventions direct or obstruct the associations of the viewer. The manipulated objects are characterised by a tension between the recognisable and the mysterious, the familiar and the unfamiliar. I rework the ceramics by cutting directly into it, by sculpting and sanding, and by combining elements from different objects. In this way, the work process becomes a way of questioning the material and highlighting stories contained in the objects."

Caitlin Kuhwald + Caitlin Shearer

Hi dee hi!

How's your week going so far? Good I hope : )

My week has been going really well. I have two very contented boys a the moment - one obsessing about making every paper plane in the book we have - about 40 of them! And the other working feverishly trying to finish a Lego Technics motorbike that we bought for his dad a few years ago... he has made it a couple of times with help, but this is his first go on his own... I love contented children : )

I have two clever Caitlin's to share with you today...

Caitlin Kuhwald

When I first discovered the work of Caitlin Kuhwald I was so excited to share it with you.. a little more research and I also discover that, well, the whole world probably knows about her work already! I am so behind the times!!

"Caitlin graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts with a BFA in illustration. She also attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where she received her MFA in painting. Caitlin now lives in Berkeley working as a freelance illustrator and teaches illustration at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco."

And her clients? well all the big guns - Puma, Pepsi, The Criterion Collection, Penguin Books, Oprah Magazine, Billboard Magazine, San Francisco Bay Guardian, Nylon Magazine, Herman Miller, Cincinnati Monthly, Continental Airlines, Filter Magazine, Boston, Rhode Island Monthly... the list is quite extensive, and it's no wonder really - check out her work!

Caitlin Shearer

I've just had the nicest time over at Caitlin Shearer's blog - oh my! what a beautiful collection of illustrations! Caitlin's watery portraits are divine, and I actually had trouble choosing which to share with you today...

I am smitten with the two below (3rd and last images) that are documentations of an outfit and a night out, I love the idea of this type of journaling... if only I was so clever!

Darling Clementine + Cuore + Carpe+Item

Hi there,

Sorry about the delay in getting this C post out... I am sure it will be worth the wait though : )

Let's jump in...

Darling Clementine

If you are anything like me, your Christmas sensors would of kicked in a while ago. I have been really enjoying the increase in Christmas goodies around the place. I have a few more treats tucked up my sleeve for later in the alphabet, but first, I want to show you these beautiful cards from Norwegian stationery company
Darling Clementine.

Because some people think it is way too early to be considering Christmas, I have included a few 'mainstream' cards from their collection as well... take a peek:

Charmaine Olivia Calcara + Cole Gerst + Curious Bird

Hello! How is your day going so far? We have another glorious spring day here, blue skies with a sprinkle of clouds, and a light sea breeze...I'm looking forward to enjoying it in a little while...

Today's 'C' collection is one that celebrates illustration, shall we get started?

Charmaine Olivia Calcara

I fell in love with the work of
Charmaine Olivia Calcara when I saw it in the latest Bolia catalogue. I had never seen her work before and loved it in this grand scale format seen in the first three images below.

And then I discovered her
store and website and blog.. oh my, so many gorgeous pieces of work... you should check it out...

Cole Gerst

You may already be familiar with the work of Cole Gerst. His artworks have graced the cover of a plethora of Cd's and Music posters - and you may have seen this piece super big on your sidewalk as part of the Vans Sky Gallery billboard campaign.

Cole's work is new to me. I found it while on a hunt for 'artwork that a boy would love' *think Christmas presents here : )* and Cole's prints definitely hit the spot.

I have chosen a small selection to showcase here, but I do suggest you jump over to his portfolio for a more in depth look - have fun!

I have really enjoyed my recent visits to Curious Bird...

Leya Williams-Albert is the crafty gal behind this lovey site..

"...a crafty lady residing in Philadelphia with her psychologist husband and two very lazy cats, Mortimer and Motown. Her seamstress grandmother taught her to sew way back in 1987 and she has loved creating ever since. She loves vintage fabric, good pens and taking daily photos, and she vows to always remain crafty, thrifty, and curious."

Curious Bird is Leya's photographic journal that documents her life and loves... it's a great read and her photography is beautiful : )
