Aqua Velvet + RE

Hi there : )

We are doubling up letters today - mainly because finding Q is proving to be getting trickier and trickier! If you have any Q suggestions feel free to drop me a line...

Aqua Velvet

Amy Henderson's
Aqua Velvet store has a nice mixture of original works, 1930's WPA reproduction prints and vintage goodies. I have chosen pieces from her artwork collection to share with you today.

"One of my favorite slices of vintage americana are posters created during the 1930’s-1940’s by various artists commissioned by the Work Projects Administration (WPA) as part of President Roosevelt’s “New Deal” initiative. Many of the artists worked in a very simplified graphic illustration style with bold hand-lettered typography.

The original silkscreen, lithograph and woodcut posters not only had great eye appeal but were assuredly very effective in publicizing health and safety programs; cultural programs including art exhibitions, theatrical, and musical performances; travel and tourism; educational programs; and community activities throughout the United States."

RE

A while ago over at Kickcan and Conkers I was introduced to a great UK store 'RE'. Inspired, owned and operated by Simon Young & Jenny Vaughan, RE is chock-full of all sorts of treats and goodies - and available online too!

"More of our products are presented online; our most REcent finds, some favourites; some raRE or REmarkable; some REcycled; some REscued and REstored; and look out for REgd. - our unique range of originals and textiles designed by RE, and made locally whenever possible."

I love shops that take you on a journey, through the past and the present... RE does just that.

O h my!

It's Friday again! We are rounding out week 3 with this O post.. have fun!

Old School Stationers

Another fun find from Portland Oregon : )

Old School Stationers is owed and operated by a Brian and Amy Reed - not just husband and wife but a dymanmic designing duo!

Believe it or not all their original artwork is hand drawn by Brian - no computers, no keyboards or fancy drawing tablets, just good old pencil and paper. Brian colour-seperates each image and then hand presses them in their nearly-100 year old press.

Amy draws on years of expereince in the home textile industry and assists Brian with the colour and pattern choices. Together they produce a collection of work that is inspired by the flowers growing in their garden, textile patterns and childhood camping memories (to name a few).

Check it out....

One Punk Posy

I LOVE these miniature moss terranuims by One Punk Posy. Elizabeth DeHart, is the creative mind behind this collection of tiny handpainted figures that explore their enclosed mossy worlds.

The little figures are staked into a carefully curated moss 'lawn' with a soil, charcoal and riverrock base. - Super easy to look after too, and each one comes gently packaged, and includes care instructions... have a look!

So, as I do, I started researching Melbourne (Australia) based Nicholas Girling of Otis Pepper, and you know what? You should just pop over to his store and blog and read all about him there. He sounds like a really great guy, and I'd think I would like him if I ever met him : ) So go on, off you go... oh, but first, have a taste of his work below....
